2nd Bundesliga: Werder Bremen explosion in top-of-the-table clash
WERDER top strikers Niklas Füllkrug and Marvin Ducksch are back on track after last weeks mental block! And what is more we saw Ilia Gruevs first goal in 2nd Bundesliga for Werder Bremen.

What an important victory in the race for promotion! SV Werder Bremen won convincingly at FC Schalke 04 (4-1) to pick up a important three points in the top-of-the-table clash. Despite it being an evenly-matched game for large parts of the first half, Ole Werner’s team were too compact for the Royal Blues in defence and were excellent in attack. Ilia Gruev gave the Green-Whites the lead with his first-ever professional goal (9’) and Niclas Füllkrug finished off a brilliant set-piece move to double Werder’s advantage (26’). In the second half, Werder continued to get forward and a quick-fire double from Marvin Ducksch (51’ and 53’) took the game away from the hosts. They did managed to get a late consolation goal through Simon Terodde (88’), but the goal did nothing to affect the result.
