GERMANY DFB-CUP: BRAVE ST. PAULI BOYS IN BROWN SEE OFF BORUSSIA DORTMUND TO MAKE QUARTER-FINALS

GERMANY DFB-Cup, 18 Jan 2022 / 20:45 CET / St. Pauli Hamburg vs Borussia Dortmund

FC St. Pauli sprang a surprise on Tuesday evening by beating cup holders Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the DFB Cup Round of last 16 in front of 2,000 spectators (Corona restrictions) at the Millerntor. The visitors made a bright start with two mega-chances but the Boys in Brown took an early lead through Etienne Amenyido four minutes in - and doubled their lead five minutes before the break when Axel Witsel put though his own goal. Dortmund stepped up the pressure after the restart and pulled one back from the spot through Erling Haaland. That was all they could muster,  however, against a St. Pauli side who defended their lead with bags of passion to seal their place in the quarter-finals.
